In Sweden we get a free lunch every day in school. Many students dislike the food, and we know that a lot of food is thrown away daily in every school across the country. What if we could find a way to change this?
After brainstorming we had a few ideas:
- Sell or give away leftover food to people in the community.
- Educate students on the importance of not wasting food.
- Create competitions at schools, with prices to the class that throws away the least amount of food.
- Create an app where students can choose what to eat for lunch.
First steps
With the ideas about education, competitions, and food apps in mind we started the Mission.
Learning from our previous experience, we decided to start our investigation close to us looking at the food at our own school.
Starting with weighing the waste and documenting the food for one week. We planned to use the data we collected to set a baseline and analyze what ends up on the students’ plates.
We also interviewed our principal and the chef about the food we get.
Hi VIGS team,
Good to see the progress and your ideas taking shape.
Best wishes,
Nuno (from LNU)
