Hi!
We are a group of 8 girls from Sweden who have joined the Science 4 girls’ project. We are now in grade 8 but when the project first started, we were still in grade 7 and we were 12 girls in the group. In this blog we will tell you all about our work. We will start by explaining how we found our mission.
Finding our mission
To start finding our mission we watched two documentaries. First Cowspiracy, it was about how the food industry affects our planet and then the Poison blue river, which talks about how clothing production is polluting our rivers and seas.
We found both films to be very inspiring, and we thought about working with a lot of different things connected to these subjects, such as transport, reducing food waste and recycling/reusing clothes.
To find out more we set of parting into smaller groups trying to do some research and looking into these different paths. We contacted different companies to interview them on their work for sustainable solutions in these areas. We quickly realized that setting up interviews and establishing contacts with the correct person is hard. Only a few of the groups managed to have an interview.
In the end we came to the conclusion that we wanted our mission to focus on reducing food waste.
T-shirts and logo
During this first part of the project we also designed a logo for our Team and we made T-shirts for us to wear when we work with our project in the public.
