Meeting with a CEO

A few weeks ago, we had a meeting with a company called Admentum.
We had been contacting a lot of different companies who work with school platforms or food apps to see if they would like to work with us. We were really happy when finally, one of the companies said yes. Admentum is the company who makes the digital school platform that our school is using. They didn’t think that they could help us build the app or integrate this idea in their platform, as we suggested. But they were curious about the project and wanted to learn more about it and support us in any way they could.

We booked an video meeting and got to meet their CEO Håkan Furevik. Håkan told us a little bit about his background, he used to be a principal, and how he started Admentum. He asked about the project and our mission and we told him about our ideas. He was really supportive and impressed by our ideas so far and thought it was strange that none of the other companies had taken the opportunity to work with us.

Håkan encouraged us, if we were interested, to go for a career in program developing. There is a shortage of competence in this area and companies are almost fighting over the employees. He also thought that there should be more women in computer science.

We got some directions on how to start when planning an app or a webpage.

• Start by drawing a picture of how you want the first page to look like. Use pen and paper. Then make another picture of the page you get to when you click on something on the first page and so on.”

He told us that that’s what he did when they started their company.

• He also recommended to keep it simple plan and focus on one part only. Because it is easy to end up with too many options and that makes things more complicated.

We were all super inspired by this meeting and the making of an app seems a little less complicated now.

Håkan left us with a promise to help us out again if we had any questions, and he wanted to keep following our work.
